Rolling Grilles in Pottsville

We repair, adjust and install rolling security grilles for warehouses, stores and loading areas. If your grille sticks, drops crooked or won't lock, we find out why, tell you plainly what it needs and fix it so it rolls and secures the way it should.

Locking up without closing off air and light

A rolling grille is a see-through curtain of rods and links that winds up above the opening. It fits places that have to be locked but still need to stay visible: a receiving cage, a shop front, a parts window, or a dock area kept open for ventilation.

Trouble with a grille usually begins as something minor. A pallet jack bends a rod, grit collects in a guide, or the spring weakens a bit every year. Ignore them and the curtain and barrel wear down until the grille sticks halfway at closing. We prefer to find it early and keep the repair small, the same care you'd expect from a neighbor watching your place.

What our rolling grille work covers

Curtain repair

We straighten or replace bent rods, swap out broken or missing links and replace damaged bottom bars. Aluminum and steel curtains both get parts that match what you have.

Guide and track work

Bent, loose or packed guides are a common cause of binding. We clean them, realign them and re-anchor them to the wall or column.

Spring and barrel adjustment

On manual grilles, the spring does most of the lifting. We check tension, adjust it or replace worn springs so the grille lifts without a fight and doesn't slam down.

Locks and operators

We repair slide bolts, cylinder locks and bottom locks. On motorized grilles we check the operator, limits and controls so it stops where it should.

New grille installation

When a grille is past saving, or you need security on a new opening, we measure, supply and install a new unit sized to the opening and how you use it.

Signs your rolling grille needs attention

It binds or drags
If someone has to push, shake or kick the curtain to get it moving, something is out of line. Usually it's a guide or a bent rod, and it gets worse with use.
It rolls up crooked
One side rising faster than the other points to a twisted curtain or uneven wear on the barrel. Keep running it that way and links start to pop.
Bent rods or missing links
Forklift and cart hits are the usual cause. Gaps weaken the curtain and can leave an opening big enough to reach through.
Heavy to lift or drops fast
A manual grille that feels heavier than it used to, or falls when let go, has a spring problem. That is a safety issue for whoever runs it.
The lock won't line up
If the bottom bar doesn't meet the lock cleanly, the grille may look closed without being secure.
Grinding or squealing
Dry bearings and grit in the guides make noise first. Winter road salt tracked in from trucks speeds that wear along.

How a grille job goes

  1. 1

    Start with a phone call

Tell us what the grille is doing, roughly how big it is and whether it's manual or motorized. Photos help if you have them handy when we come out.

  2. 2

We look it over on site

We run the grille, check the curtain, guides, barrel, spring and lock, and show you what we found. You get a clear written estimate before any work starts.

  3. 3

    Work planned around your hours

We schedule the repair when the opening matters least to you, like before receiving starts or after the store closes. Our crew is first aid and CPR certified, and we rope off the work area so your people stay clear.

  4. 4

    Test, clean up, walk through

We cycle the grille several times, check the lock and show your staff anything they should know about running it. Then we sweep up and haul away old parts. Our repairs carry a 1-year labor warranty.

What moves the price of grille work

We won't guess at a number over the phone without knowing what's wrong. Most repairs come down to a handful of things, and we spell each one out in the written estimate so you can see where the money goes.

Size of the opening
A wide grille has more rods and links, a bigger barrel and heavier springs. More material means more parts and more labor.
Aluminum or steel
Aluminum is lighter and resists rust. Steel is stronger and heavier, and its parts cost differently.
Manual or motorized
A motor adds an operator, controls and wiring to check or replace. Manual grilles are simpler but lean hard on the spring.
Condition behind the damage
A bent rod is a quick fix. A bent rod that came from a cracked guide or a worn barrel is a bigger job, and we tell you which it is.
Access and mounting
High openings, tight ceilings or crumbling masonry around the guides take extra time and equipment.

Questions about rolling grilles

Is our grille repairable, or is it time for a new one?
Most can be fixed, since rods, links, guides, springs and locks can all be swapped. When the barrel is badly worn or damage runs across much of the curtain, a new grille may be cheaper in the long run, and we'll show you the reasons before you choose.
Do you handle hand-operated and motorized grilles?
We do. We service grilles run by hand, by chain hoist or by motor. If an opening gets used often enough, we can also fit a motor to a manual grille.
How long will the opening be unusable?
Quick fixes like a new rod or a lock repair usually wrap up in one trip. Spring work, barrel work and new installs run longer. We set the timing with you so the opening is closed when it costs you the least.
Is there a warranty on the work?
Yes, our repairs and installs carry a 1-year labor warranty. If our work fails in that time, call and we'll return to set it right.
Can you put a grille on an opening inside the building?
Yes. Grilles suit parts cages, pharmacy and service counters, and inner openings between warehouse areas where you need a lock but still want air and a clear view through.
Will you work on grilles beyond Pottsville?
Yes. We cover the area around us, including Schuylkill Haven, Minersville, Orwigsburg, Frackville and Shenandoah.
